Synthetic turf is naturally green. There are numerous environmental benefits. Unlike natural grass, Shaw Sportexe artificial turf needs no water, and no costly fertilizers or pesticides. It can save millions of gallons of water every year. There is no need for pollution producing maintenance equipment. And because the infill is composed of rubber, millions of tires each year are kept out of landfills. Best of all, at the end of the field’s useful life, all components of the Shaw Sportexe synthetic grass can be either reused or recycled through our Shaw Green Edge Recycling Program.
Once the synthetic turf field is taken up, the infill (sand & rubber) is removed, cleaned and reused in future fields. The artificial turf can then be shipped to Shaw’s headquarters and repurposed using different methods such as converting into resin pellets that are used in the manufacturing of other products like Shaw carpet backing and resilient flooring. Another option is Waste to Energy where we generate fuel in our state-of-the-art Re2E facility to run our manufacturing locations.
