FOUR SPORTS TO BE FEATURED ON AVILA UNIVERSITY’S NEW SHAW SPORTEXE FIELD

Construction is underway on a multipurpose synthetic turf field that will house four sports programs for Avila University. The fields will feature Shaw Sportexe synthetic turf systems and are scheduled to unveil in the fall.

At 194,000 square feet, the new field is no doubt the largest single monolithic field in Kansas City. Four sports, including football, soccer, baseball and softball, can be played on the field. Previously, Avila’s fields were not capable of handling home games. The university had to rent facilities off campus to fulfill their program needs.

The new turf system, called Legion, features both a high-performance monofilament fiber and durable slit-film fiber, and an infill mixture of sand and rubber. Engineered to withstand the demands of heavy-use and high-traffic fields, Legion delivers the perfect combination of performance, durability and safety.

The new field is just part of a large expansion to enhance Avila’s athletic program and campus. In addition to the synthetic turf, the campus will receive new football, softball and baseball scoreboards, a new press box, bleachers and landscaping upgrades that will allow for additional student seating on a hillside. The university plans to open up the new athletic fields for student recreational use and welcome youth organizations from the community.
